1. You will need to install your card into an empty PCI slot inside your computer. Check to make sure you have an open PCI slot. Usually if there is a row of metal slot covers on the back of the PC and any of them do not have connections, then you will have an open slot inside. You may wish to open your PC and look inside to make sure the slot is empty. 2. Check your processor and operating system. The software will only run on Windows 2000, XP, or 2003 Server. These cards work best with Intel Pentium 3 or 4 processors. Some other processor/motherboard combinations will not work with these cards. If you don't have an Intel P3 or P4 processor, call us first! 3. Each card has different requirements for memory and recommended hard drive space. Check the features tab on the card you select to view the other requirements. 4. Determine the number of cameras that you will need. That will determine how many video inputs the card will need to have. Keep in mind that if you wish to add more cameras in the future, you will need to have extra inputs available. 5. Decide the number of fps
(frames of video displayed and recorded in one second) that you wish to be displayed/recorded for each camera. We
recommend a minimum of 5fps for most security applications. 30fps is optimal and is the normal frame rate for watching TV images from camcorders, VCR's, DVD's, etc. Most customers will want to get the most fps that their budget will allow and try to get as close to 30fps per camera as possible. Slow: 1-4fps - Slower
than Time Lapse Video 6. Next take the total FPS number of the card you will be using, and divide that number by the number of cameras you will be using. As an example, 10 cameras connected to a GV-800-16 that is capable of 120fps total will display and record the video from each camera at 12fps (120fps/10=12) under normal conditions. 7. Click on the model number of the card that matches the number of camera inputs with the necessary frame rate for more information or to order. |
